Scene 1: A farm house in
the country
Totino and Pappalia sit at a table talking. Two other men
can be seen sitting in another room watching television and
joking around. Totino is getting another cup of coffee when
the cell phone on the table starts ringing. He pauses for a
second, then he motions for Pappalia to pick up the phone.
Pappalia looks at the phone, then picks it up.
JOHN PAPPALIA:
Yeah?....He’s isn’t available right now, what’s up?
A look of shock comes over
his face as he slowly closes the phone and puts it back on
the table. He sits back in his chair and lets out a sigh. He
turns to Totino with a look of concern.
JOHN PAPPALIA: They got
Bobby. Four o’clock this morning while he was getting out of
a cab over on Fourth Street just before the tunnel. They
shot the cab driver as well. Whoever did it, didn’t want
witnesses.
TOTINO: I’m gonna make a
few calls. This guy has got to have some enemies. He is
trying to get to us and we are running out of places to go.
Take Jimmy and go see Fat Tony down at Cappeletti’s club.
See what he knows about this guy.
Pappalia nods and goes
into the other room and leaves with Jimmy. Totino and the
other man leave in a different vehicle. The camera pans back
and fades out as both cars drive off in opposite directions.
Scene 2: Captain Brady’s
house 2:30 am Tuesday Morning.
Brady is sound asleep on
the couch. There is a faint light coming through the window
from the moon. His television is still on in the background
but barely audible. The silence is interrupted by the loud
ringing of his phone. It startles him awake and he looks
dazed as he tries to clue into what the sound is. After a
few seconds he comes around and he picks up the phone,
almost dropping it but catching it again and bringing it to
his ear.
BRADY: uhh, Brady here….
Yeah…ok, gimme 30 minutes.
Brady stumbles his way
down the hall to the bathroom. He closes the door and the
scene fades out.
Scene 3: Cappeletti’s
Night Club. 3:30am
Police are everywhere as
well as a massive crowd of people gathering to see what the
commotion is about. Outside the club stands Sergeant Wilcox
and Lieutenant Johnson. They are waiting for Brady to show
up before they go back inside. Brady arrives in his car and
he parks up on the grass away from the crowd. He gets out of
his car and makes his way to the club entrance where he is
greeted by Sergeant Wiclox and Lieutenant Johnson. The three
of them head inside where glass can be seen everywhere and
tables are turned up all over the place. In the corner lays
the body of Fat Tony. He appears to have four bullet holes
in his chest.
BRADY: Is that who I think
it is?
JOHNSON: Fat Tony Marcelli.
He was with the Gomezabino crew. Witnesses say they saw him
talking to two men just before they heard gun shots. After
that, it was pretty much mayhem in here.
WILCOX: Dispatch ran a
check on him. FBI reports him as being a Captain under a guy
by the name of Joe Bats. That’s all we got on him right now.
BRADY: Any direct
connection to Jay Gomezabino? This is starting to look less
like a series of murders and more like a mob war brewing. We
don’t need this escalating gentleman.
WILCOX: As far as I know,
there is no direct connection. Jay Gomezabino is the brother
of Victor Gomezabino so we know he has got to be tied into
these killings some how. I’d like to bring him in for
questioning if we can.
JOHNSON: No can do Frank.
The judge won’t even look at us until we have something
solid to bring him in on. Best we can do is try to talk to
him and see if he will talk to us voluntarily. If not, then
we got nothing right now but a bunch of bodies.
BRADY: Go see him. See if
he is willing to help us out at all. After all, these guys
could be looking for him next?
The scene fades out as
police ar looking around the club for more clues as to how
things went down.
Scene 4: Joe Gomezabino’s
house
Joe is sitting at the
kitchen table reading a news paper and eating dinner. The
front page reads..MOB WAR BREWS AS MORE BODIES TURN UP. Joe
just ignores the front page and flips to the sport section.
He has a lot of money on the street and last nights boxing
match didn’t help him any. Joe picks up the phone and starts
dialing. He hears the phone start ringing. On the other end
is Duke.
JOE: You see today’s
paper?
DUKE: yea I saw it. The
ole man’s gonna be pissed.
JOE: We got to take care
of this. This guy is bad for business.
DUKE: So you saying what I
think you’re saying?
JOE: You do what you gotta
do.
DUKE: I’d feel better if
the Ole Man was aware.
JOE: Just get it taken
care of. I will deal with the Ole Man.
Joe hangs up and grabs his
coat. He takes one last look at the news paper before he
leaves. The sound of his door being locked is heard then the
scene fades out.
Scene 5: A small pizza
shop downtown
There are a few men
standing outside and people can be seen coming and going
from the shop. At a table in the back corner of the shop
sits Joe and Jay. They are deep in discussion and Jay looks
like he is upset.
Joe: I don’t know why
you're so pissed off. You should be thanking me if anything.
Jay: Thanking you?? Let’s
get one thing straight little brother. I am the fuckin Boss,
not you…You understand me?
Joe: (sarcastically) Loud
and clean El Capitan!
Jay: See..that’s the shit
I am talking about. You act like a fuckin douche bag!
Joe: (stands Up) OOOOOOOO
What the fuck?
A couple guys stand up by
Jay motions for then to sit down and Joe realizes his place
and sits back down.
Joe: Look, I'm sorry, this
shit is just starting to get to me, ya know?
Jay: I give it less than a
week…somebody is going to bring us the information we want..
Joe: What should I tell
Duke?
Jay: Tell him to send a
message to Totino. Tell him to go see Nicky Glasses down in
Hoboken. Totino and Glasses go back a long way.
Joe: You mean Nicky
Malanga?
Jay: So what?
Joe: Totino won’t be the
only one effected by this.
Jay: Just do as your told!
With that, both men stand
up and hug each other and Joe heads out the door as he is
making a call on his cell to Duke.
Scene 6: CWPD Headquarters
Brady and Wilcox are
sitting at their desks looking over notes. The investigation
has gone nowhere. They are talking back and forth when
Detective Patrick O’Neil comes in with a large envelope.
Brady: What ya got there
Pat?
O’Neil: What would you say
if I said we got surveillance shots of Jay Gomezabino
meeting with Mr. Elusive himself?
Wilcox: No Fucking Way!
Brady: Joe Bats?
O’Neil: One in the same,
only we did better than that. Our informant tells us that
Joe Bats is actually the younger brother of Jay Gomezabino.
Brady: There was three of
them?
O’Neil: Apparently. We
have no way of confirming right now but we assume the
information is accurate.
Brady: Ok, I want as much
information as we can get on Joe Bats. Find out what they
are up to. This could be the break we needed.
The scene fades out with
all three men grabbing the phone and making separate calls.
Scene 7: Joe’s club
Joe is sitting in his office
looking out over the crowd of people dancing away in his
club. The music is barely audible but gets very loud for a
moment as Duke walks in with Donovan. They both grab a drink
and join Joe at the window and sit down. They all look out
over the crowd as Joe begins to speak.
Joe: The Ole man called it off. He
wants to wait.
Duke: The waiting game? Tony was
one of us Joe..this is fuckin bullshit.
Donovan: I have to agree Joe, the
Ole Man is wrong. We need to act and act now!
Joe turns to both of them in a
threatening manner.
Joe: You both know the fucking
rules....so you better fuckin follow them.. Capische’?
Both men agree and sit back in
their chairs taking a deep breath and let out a sigh.
Joe: Alright look, what happened to
Tony…it was business…we will act and it will be in a timely
fashion, however… we don’t need any heat right now. We got
word this morning that there is a fuckin rat. Now I don’t
know who it is, but we are gonna flush him out. When we
do..he’s mine!
Donovan: What about Bobby Lupo?
Since he got out of the can, he aint been himself.
Duke: You do six years in the can
and see how fucking good you are when you come out. Bobby is
a good kid, he wouldn’t do anything that stupid.
Joe: You vouching for him then?
Duke: I’m just sayin..he is a good
kid ya know, I’m just sayin..
Joe looks at duke with a serious
look and gets close to him.
Joe: I said..Do you vouche for him?
Duke: Well..no, but I…
Joe: Then shut up.
Duke looks at Joe with resentment
but keeps his mouth shut. Joe stands up and the other two
stand up after him. He hugs them both and sends them on
their way. As they are leaving, Donovan stops and looks at
Joe.
Donovan: You know, when we had that
pool party last week..all of us showed up dressed for the
occasion..
Joe: And?
Donovan: Lupo wasn’t wearing
shorts..and he refused to put any on when I offered him
some. Just a thought.
The scene fades out as Joe closes
the door then sits at his desk. He takes a deep breath and
sits back in his chair. He lights up a cigar as the scene
fades.
